about Our WeDding

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

keyboard_arrow_down

Welcome drinks will be available beginning at 5:00 PM, and the ceremony will start promptly at 5:30 PM.

What is the dress code?

keyboard_arrow_down

This is a black tie disco, but leave the bell bottoms and 70s costumes at home. Ladies, evening gowns, long formal cocktail dresses or even an elegant suit are appropriate. Gentlemen, a tuxedo, black bow tie and black shoes is the most traditional option. For those wanting to take a more modern approach, a velvet or patterned jacket is just as acceptable. Get creative with it!

Avant-garde? Mais oui!

Here's some inspiration if you need it!

The menu will consist of various vegetarian, and pescatarian canapés, followed by salads, a surf & turf entrée, and dessert.

I've never been to a gay wedding. What should I expect?

keyboard_arrow_down

This isn't a gay wedding, it's just a wedding! It'll be just like other weddings you've been to: the lovely couple will be united in marriage, and you'll be encouraged to celebrate!

What traditions will be honored at the wedding?

keyboard_arrow_down

To celebrate Aaron's Arab-American heritage, the wedding will include zaffa (zuf-feh). This procession began as a means to lead village members to a wedding celebration, but today' it's a way for guests to welcome the couple to the dance floor. Join in on the fun!

Will the event take place indoors or outdoors?

keyboard_arrow_down

All events will take place indoors. There is also a rooftop veranda adjoining the dance floor that guests are encouraged to use, weather permitting.

The room blocks are full. Where else should I stay?

keyboard_arrow_down

Element Detroit and the Westin Book Cadillac are two great options that are walkable to the venue.

How do I get to the wedding venue? Will transportation be provided?

keyboard_arrow_down

Transportation to and from the event will not be provided. Taxis are scarce, but Ubers and Lyfts are readily available. Please download either app ahead of time for easy access the day of.

Despite Detroit being the Motor City, there are two safe and inexpensive public transit options with stops at or near Shinola Hotel: The Q-Line streetcar runs every 15 minutes. The Q-Line is free to ride. Use the Grand Circus or Campus Martius stops. The Detroit People Mover is an elevated rail that runs every 4 minutes. Rides are $0.75 and require exact change. Use the Broadway station.

Is there parking available at the wedding venue?

keyboard_arrow_down

Valet parking will be available for a small fee. Street parking is also available right outside the venue.
